In a world where virtue seems elusive, it is reassuring to acknowledge that good people still exist. However, discovering them requires divine guidance. Ultimately, only God can lead us to such individuals.
This raises a poignant question: what is the guiding force in your life?
If material wealth is your primary motivator, you will likely encounter affluent individuals, but experience will reveal that riches in the hands of the unscrupulous yield no genuine benefits. In the same way, if knowledge is your guiding principle, you will encounter erudite individuals, but it is essential to recognize that intellectual prowess and moral character are distinct attributes. History has demonstrated that learned individuals can be equally wicked as their uneducated counterparts. Just look at some of the educated individuals in positions of power – they can be just as wicked as those without formal education.
It is crucial to acknowledge that true goodness is an attribute that originates from God. In the absence of divine guidance, our endeavors are inherently flawed.
Before lamenting the state of affairs, it is essential to introspect and discern the guiding forces in our lives. Even amidst challenging circumstances, such as Nigeria’s current economic struggles, God remains faithful, leading His people to green pastures, which often manifest as meaningful relationships rather than geographical locations.
What is the guiding force in your life? A more fulfilling existence awaits, but it necessitates surrendering to divine guidance. There is a green pasture for you but you can only be led there. When you try to ‘calculate’ like Lot, though it looked green at the start, it will soon be in flames.
Logic, education, exposure, experience, common sense, connection, statistics, motivation, etc, will only carry you to the valley of the shadow of death and you will be afraid. You might use words like concern, disturbed, perturbed, these are just convenient way to express the uncertainty of the future and the fear of the unknown. This is a symptom on one singular thing, you’re being led by something apart from God.
Friends! There is none good but one, that is, God. Now matter how far you’ve journeyed under the leadership of another, now is the best time to repent. Put your trust in God and let him give direction to your life. You’re made in His image and likeness, being led by the rock is your life, all other will sink you in the situations of life.
I conclude by reiterating, there are still good people that when you meet, your life changes for good. There are still good places you can go that your endeavour will thrive. There are still good businesses you can do where you are that will bring good success. The simple truth is, they all exist in God and only through God can a man come into it.
This is a new year. Who is leading you?
